Special Issue on Complications of Pregnancy
Complications of Pregnancy is an academic topic that focuses on different conditions or factors that
can arise during pregnancy, potentially impacting the health of the mother and
fetus. It involves the study of various medical, physiological, and obstetric
complications that can occur throughout the course of pregnancy. This field explores a wide range of pregnancy-related
complications, including gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, gestational hypertension,
placental abnormalities, fetal growth restriction, preterm labor, and multiple
pregnancies (e.g., twins or triplets). It also encompasses conditions that can
develop during pregnancy, such as maternal infections, maternal mental health
disorders, and maternal medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or
autoimmune diseases. Research in this area aims to understand the causes, risk
factors, mechanisms, and potential interventions for such complications. It
explores the impact of these conditions on maternal and fetal health and
investigates strategies for prevention, early detection, and management of
pregnancy complications. Overall, studying the complications of pregnancy is
crucial for advancing medical knowledge, improving maternal and fetal health
outcomes, and guiding clinical practices to provide the best possible care for
pregnant individuals and their babies.
