Special Issue on Pasture and Forage

Pasture and forage consisted mainly of grasses, with an interspersion of legumes and other forbs, is plant material eaten by grazing livestock directly as pasture, crop residue, or immature cereal crops, but it also includes similar plants cut for fodder and carried to the animals, especially as hay or silage. Pasture and forage grass which possess strong reproductive capacity can be harvested many times a year, and they are rich in a variety of trace elements and vitamins, all of these characters make them the first choice for livestock. In addition, Grasses also contribute to improving soil physical and chemical properties, maintaining the soil fertility, windbreak and sand-fixation, conserving soil and water, greening the environment and climate regulation. Since the grass could effectively utilize the light energy, development of pasture and forage grass is beneficial to establish stable and high yield farming and animal husbandry production system and maintain the ecological balance. Thus research on pasture and forage are of great importance.
