Special Issue on Actinomycetes

Actinomycetes are a class of Gram-positive bacteria with branch mycelium. They belong to prokaryotic organisms and are widely distributed in nature, mainly depending on spore reproduction, followed by reproductive fragmentation. Actinomycetes are closely related to human production and life. In the current, about 70% widely used antibiotics are produced by all sorts of actinomycetes. Among them, Streptomyces is notable as an important source of antibiotics; moreover, some kinds of actinomycetes can also produce different kinds of enzymes (such as protease, amylase and cellulase, etc.), organic acid and vitamin B12; while on the other hand, there still are a few actinomycetes which inhabit plants and animals, and a few pathogens which are harmful to human and animals, such as Mycobacterium, Corynebacterium, Nocardia and Rhodococcus. In a word, actinomycetes are well known as secondary metabolite producers and of high pharmacological and medical interest. The goal of this special issue is to provide a platform for scientists and academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss various new issues and developments in the area of actinomycetes.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original researches and review articles on exploring actinomycetes. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• High guanine and cytosine content
• Potential producers of antibodies
• Prolific producer of useful bioactive metabolite
• Decomposition conductive to crop production
• Actinobacteridae

Authors should read over the journal’s Authors’ Guidelines carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.
