Special Issue on Chitin and Chitosan Research

Chitin is abundant in the crusts of marine arthropods (such as shrimp and crab), and also in the cell walls of insects, algae and higher plants. It is widely distributed, and its reserves in nature are second only to cellulose. Chitin is a natural polysaccharide, and the product of removing acetyl is chitosan. As new functional biomaterials, they have been applied in water treatment, daily chemicals, bioengineering and medicine. The success of chitin and chitosan in each of these specific applications is directly related to deep research into their physicochemical properties.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original researches and review articles on exploring chitin and chitosan research. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

    • Interactions of chitin and chitosan
    • Structural and functional analyses
    • Chitosan and their derivatives
    • Physico-chemistry, enzymology, biotechnology research
    • New ways to biotechnologically produce, modify, and analyses
    • Food science and agricultural applications
    • Medical and biomedical applications
    • Chitosan-based products and markets

Authors should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly notice that the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title is supposed to be specified and the research field “Special Issue – Chitin and Chitosan Research” should be chosen during your submission.

    According to the following timetable:
