    Special Issue on Advances in Bulk Metallic Glasses


    Bulk metallic glasses are multi-component metallic alloys that are amorphous. Due to a lack of ordered atomic arrangements and grain boundaries, like in their crystalline counterparts, metallic glasses are able to achieve high strength, wear-resistance and toughness. Metallic glasses were first synthesized by rapidly cooling molten metal, faster than crystalline lattices could form, resulting in a disordered atomic arrangement such as that of glassy materials. Since then, several synthesis methods such as suction casting, spark plasma sintering etc have been explored. The mechanical properties of metallic glasses under both static and dynamic loading have also been studied and shown them to be suitable for a wide array of applications including as armor for ballistic shielding, athletic equipment and biomedical devices. The goal of this special issue is to provide a platform for scientists and academicians all over the world to promote, share, and discuss various new issues and developments in this area of advances in bulk metallic glasses.


    In this special issue, we invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles that explore advances in bulk metallic glasses. In this special issue, potential topics include, but are not limited to:


    • Amorphous Metals and their Composites
    • Synthesis techniques for metallic glasses
    • Metallic glasses as amor: response to dynamic loading
    • Metallic glass matrix composites
    • Mechanical properties of metallic glasses
    • Applications of bulk metallic glasses
